Ann Swinton, known by her stage name Ranking Ann, stands as an utmost feminist icon within the realm of Reggae.
Ever since she was young, she started writing lyrics that protested against sexism, racism, and xenophobia. One could say she was a trailblazer, especially as a woman in the music industry.
Eventually, Ann caught the attention of one of the biggest record labels in Reggae and Dub music, Ariwa. They played a pivotal role in her rise to fame but paradoxically sabotaged her career, truncating her musical journey.
In this show, part 1 of 2 episodes featuring Ranking Ann, she opens up about her experiences in the Reggae music industry, giving us an inside look into her journey.
